How To Mix And Match Coloured Contact Lenses And Eye Makeup

There is an increasing number of people who regularly use hair extensions and colored contact lenses to enhance or change their appearance. Blue eyes, green eyes, blonde hair, red hair, natural, not natural, but who cares?

Botox and fillers are on the rise and we all want to improve our overall appearance – colored contact lenses are an easy way of doing this with no pain involved.

Choose the Right Color for the Right Look

Depending upon the type of look you are going for, below are a couple choices, these choices work well for a subtle look or if you have tonal highlights.

Dark Eyes:

  • Freshlook Colorblends in Amethyst (for a great looking, subtle tonal change)
  • Freshlook Illuminate, which encircle your iris with a dark purplish ring – it may sound strange, but it really makes your eyes stand out!

Neither of these colors will make your eyes look ‘fake’.

For Lighter eyes:

  • Freshlook Dimensions such as Pacific Blue or Sea Green will give you a unique tonal change depending upon your natural eye color and will make a significant difference without looking fake.

Most online contact lens retailers sell colored lenses, even a new websites such as www.samedaylenses.com. It is worth keeping in mind that most websites and even pop videos have been photoshopped and therefore you may not see the exact same color effect in your own eyes. Most Opticians are happy to provide you with a few colors to try when you go for a contact lens fitting.

If you would prefer to change your eye color altogether, you will find that lenses such as Freshlook Colorblends in True Sapphire or Soflens Natural Colors in Topaz will completely cover your natural eye color and provide a strikingly noticeable color change.

Be Bold and Beautiful

Wearing colored lenses is a great way to enhance your eyes and experiment with creative new looks. Mascara is good as long as it is non-flaking and this is where you can use colored eye liners and mascaras to achieve a great effect.  Why not try purple or dark blue or green for both, or a flash of bronze or gold eyeliner to really enhance the new color of your eyes. You’ll find that bronze or gold eye shadows such as Maybelline’s Color Tattoo will really complement blue toned eyes and natural browns or gold hues will also make purple tones stand out.

You have to be a bit careful when combining eye makeup with contact lenses – getting makeup in your eyes is a big no-no! So ideally, put your contact lenses in before you apply the makeup. Where possible do not use eyeliner inside the eye, as this can transmit to the lens, which causes an increased risk of infection and may also irritate the eye’s surface. Use hypoallergenic make up where possible, as these are less likely to cause an adverse reaction.

There are several brands of colored contact lenses, some with a prescription and some with no prescription, which makes them suitable for almost everybody.  However, they are all manufactured in different fittings so you should go to your Optician for a contact lens fitting before buying them, even if you don’t need to wear glasses.
