What’s Good for the Goose ain’t Good for the Gander

We are always trying to avoid people that are not good for us. Some people just have these toxic traits, that do nothing but bring us down. They are not good for the mind, body or the soul, but have you ever stopped to think that you, yourself have toxic traits?

What is a toxic person?

A toxic person are people who make you feel small. They take away your self worth in just a moment of meeting them. They can be harsh with their words and meanings, not giving any thought to how you feel or felt during the interaction.

Traits to run from

Something to be on the lookout for when cleansing your current life.

  • Seeks attention constantly
  • Complains to no end and not actively seeking to better their situation
  • Makes you feel small and insignificant
  • Constant arguing with no real attempt to find a resolution
  • They use harsh humor towards you
  • Consistent emotional instability without working on themselves

Who can be toxic?

Anybody can be toxic, your parents, friends, co-workers, bosses, spouses ANYBODY. We are very quick to point out who it is that are toxic to us, but are so blinded by love when it comes to a spouse, lover, boy/girlfriend. Keep your romantic feelings out of it. If you know they aren’t good for you, walk away. More importantly though, you, yourself can be toxic to someone else.

Am I that Person?

To know if you’re a toxic person you have to swallow your pride, and take a moment to reflect on your daily interactions. You know the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have done unto you,” that’s basically what you’re looking for. You have to remove your ego from this moment of self-reflection, if not, you will not be able to see your true self.

An Act of Self-love

Self-reflection is most definitely an act of self-love. Cleansing our whole being means to look deep inside ourselves. During this self-reflection, you’ll start to see what needs to be healed. You learn in what ways you are behaving in a toxic manner, and how to improve upon it. There are several ways to help you focus on yourself. Personally, I like to journal so I can look back on what I need to correct.

Some ways that you can practice Self-Reflection are…

  • Journaling
  • Painting
  • Mediating
  • Making music
  • Dancing

It can be scary to do some self-reflecting, realizing that you may be hurting someone else, or that you could actually be the toxic person to someone that you care about. If you’re scared that means you need to grow. Growth is what makes us all better people!
